HOWTO: Vista RC1 and Quicken 2006 – Opening Your Data File

September 16, 2006

Quicken 2006, for some reason, seems to crash out to the desktop when you are starting up and attempt to open your old data file.  Are you a new user?  No.  Do you want to open an existing file?  Yes.  Oh, tough.  Eat desktop, bastard.  How do you get around this?

Just act like your a new user, let it create a new QDATA, then just File > Open your existing data.  Stupid, but it seems to work.  Quicken has worked like a charm since–downloading from institutions, registers, and even backing up to the network seems fine.  Oddities.
