Printing ActiveReports on a Web Server Without a Printer

February 27, 2007

Tired of trying to troubleshoot the odd Printer issues with ActiveReports?  Stuck rolling out a project that works locally, but fails remotely because the remote web server doesn’t (and will never) have a printer hooked up to it?

Receiving the error: “Failed to open the Default printer is not set. printer, System error number: 1801”?

I finally found a fix on the DataDynamics forums that solves it.

In the code-behind of your report, find the Report area and add:

this.Document.Printer.PrinterName = string.Empty;

My thanks go out to Benton, the poster, for the fix.
