DataDynamics ActiveReports and VS2008 Beta 2

August 6, 2007

Well, along with the fun of transfering from AJAX v1.0 to AJAX v3.5 (Microsoft is KILLING MY SOUL with all the odd versioning… I hope they find a scheme and stick to it soon), I copied over one of my current projects and loaded it up to check compatibility.

The AJAX transition went well as did the Control Toolkit… but ActiveReports did not.  For some odd reason, even after install and uninstall, the context of the reports doesn’t click in—they show up as standard c# class files.  They still compile and work, but you cannot go into Designer view and the Reports menu itself never activates (it’s there… you can force it to add, but the logic in the menu never turns on because it doesn’t recognize the file).

DataDynamics has never said that their products will work with Orcas, so the fact it worked with Beta 1 and not Beta 2 leads me to believe that some of the renumbering and rehashing that occured broke whatever was left of 2005–esque in the app…

Ahh well.  So, DD, any plans on an Orcas version we bleeding edgers can start playing with? 🙂

We won’t officially support ActiveReports for .NET with Orcas until Orcas is released, but it is possible that future builds of ActiveReports for .NET v.3 will play nicely again with pre-release versions of Orcas.

That’s what I expected–beyond “officially support”, does DD have any plans to provide an EAP that developers can begin working with that is unsupported/community based?

We don’t have specific plans for such a release right now.
